Everton had to settle for a point at home to West Bromwich Albion in the English Premier League on Saturday, in a match overshadowed by a horror injury to midfielder James McCarthy.

The Republic of Ireland international was stretchered off with a double leg fracture after a collision with Salomon Rondon in the second half, with the Toffees trailing in the game thanks to a Jay Rodriguez opener for the Baggies.

Sam Allardyce’s side rallied though and rescued a point through substitute Oumar Niasse, who netted just 56 seconds after coming off the bench.

New arrival Cenk Tosun was again given an opportunity to impress but looked isolated throughout his time on the pitch with Everton failing to provide much creativity in the final third, though the debuting Theo Walcott did provide the assist for Niasse’s equaliser.

Supporters were disappointed with the performance and their midfield in particular, with Morgan Schneiderlin receiving most of the criticism.

The French international, who signed for the club for a reported £24m just over a year ago, was ineffective in the middle of the park and fans are now calling for him to be dropped.
